Wordle Helper: Every Word That Still Fits
Type the letters Wordle has already told you about, and get back every word that still fits. Green, yellow, and gray clues all count, including the tricky double-letter cases.
No clues yet. Fill in what Wordle has told you above, and every word that still fits will appear here.
The game
What is Wordle
Wordle gives you six tries to guess one five-letter word. Everyone gets the same word each day, which is why half the internet compares scores every morning.
After each guess, the tiles flip color. Green means right letter, right spot. Yellow means the letter is in the word but somewhere else. Gray means the letter is out.
One detail trips people up: gray does not always mean the letter is absent. If the answer contains B twice and your guess contains three Bs, the third B shows up gray. The count matters, and the tool above accounts for it.
Josh Wardle built the game in 2021 as a gift for his partner. The New York Times bought it in January 2022, and it has run daily ever since.
Guide
How to use Wordle Helper
- 01
Guess a word in Wordle and look at which tiles turn green, yellow, or gray.
- 02
Type green letters into the five Correct boxes, each in its exact position.
- 03
Type yellow letters into Present. If you know a spot where a yellow letter cannot go, tap that number under the letter.
- 04
Type gray letters into Absent. When a letter is gray but also green or yellow elsewhere, the tool treats gray as a limit on how many times that letter can appear.
- 05
Pick your next guess from the list. Words from the official answer pool come first, because the daily answer is always one of them.
- 06
After each guess, update the boxes and watch the list shrink. Most puzzles narrow to a handful of options by the third guess.
Why bother
Why use a Wordle helper
Protect your streak
One wasted sixth guess erases months of wins. Checking what still fits takes ten seconds.
Learn the words the game tests
The candidate list is full of words like ABACK and AGAPE that can be real answers.
Survive Hard Mode
When every revealed letter must be reused, the legal options shrink fast. The filter keeps track so you don't have to.
You still make the final call
The tool removes impossible words. The guess is yours.
Strategy
Best Wordle starting words
Your first guess is the only one you make with zero information, so it matters most. Good openers share a pattern: two or more vowels, common consonants like R, S, T, L, and N, and no repeated letters.
The New York Times WordleBot's top pick.
WordleBot's original recommendation, with the same vowels and a different consonant spread.
Mathematically optimal in an MIT study: 3.42 guesses on average with perfect play.
Highest average information gain in Grant Sanderson's entropy analysis. It means a young hawk.
Three vowels plus two of the most common consonants.
Four vowels, popular with players who like to map the vowels first.
Pick one and use it every day. A fixed opener makes your second guess easier to reason about, because you always know which letters you have already tested.

Wordle tips and strategy
01Never reuse a gray letter
Every guess should test letters you know nothing about yet. A guess full of ruled-out letters tells you nothing.
02Yellow means not here
Move yellow letters to a different position on your next guess. A yellow E in spot two rules out E in spot two, and the tool tracks that for you.
03Suspect double letters when the board stalls
If you have four letters pinned and nothing fits, consider that one of them appears twice. Answers like ABBEY and EERIE end a lot of streaks.
04Spend a guess to buy information
When three words still fit and you have two turns left, playing a word that tests the distinguishing letters beats picking one of the three and hoping.
05Enter every clue before guessing in Hard Mode
The filter only suggests legal words, so it doubles as a rule check.
Beyond Wordle
Works with Wordle spin-offs
Plenty of Wordle spin-offs keep the five-letter format and the same color rules, which means this tool works for them too.
Dordle gives you two words at once with 7 guesses. Quordle asks for four words with 9 guesses. Octordle pushes it to eight words with 13 guesses. Enter the clues one board at a time and filter each grid separately.
It also works for most Wordle clones, as long as they stick to five-letter English words.
Questions
Wordle Helper FAQ
Is Wordle Helper free?
Yes. You don't need an account or a download, and there's no daily limit. The filtering runs in your browser, so nothing you type leaves your device.
Is using a Wordle helper cheating?
That is between you and your group chat. Plenty of players treat it as a training tool: play the first three or four guesses solo, then check the list instead of burning the last two turns. Used that way, it teaches more than it spoils.
Does the tool use the real Wordle word list?
Yes. It filters the same two lists the game itself uses: roughly 2,300 words that can be answers, plus the larger set of accepted guesses, about 13,000 words in total.
What is the best starting word?
There is no single correct answer. The NYT WordleBot likes SLATE and CRANE, information theory studies point to SALET or SOARE, and many players swear by ADIEU. The starting words section above explains the reasoning.
How does it handle double letters?
The same way the game does. When a letter shows up gray but also green or yellow, the answer contains that letter exactly as many times as you have confirmed. The filter enforces the count instead of banning the letter outright, which is where most other helpers get it wrong.
Does it work for Quordle, Dordle, and Octordle?
Yes. Those games use the same five-letter rules. Work one board at a time.
Do I need to install anything?
No. It runs in any modern browser, on a phone or a computer.
Will it spoil today's answer?
Not unless you want it to. The tool narrows down possibilities from your clues. It does not look up or reveal the daily answer.
